Coaster, Set of 4 Ocracoke with Holder - Beacon

The coasters are cast using a putty made of pulverized diatomaceous earth (aka, “DE”). DE is fossilized diatom casings/exoskeletons.  It is food safe— in fact, it is often mixed in with stored grains, because the sharp edges of the tiny particles (harmless to us) is abrasive to insects, causing them to die of dehydration.  Although the coasters are lighter than igneous rock, they are surprisingly tough.  They absorb moisture and have a cork backing to protect furniture.
